The ninth generation of Toyota's legendary pickup truck has been completely redesigned, both inside and out. Alongside traditional combustion engines, Toyota introduces a fully electric battery EV version.
Update: New images reveal multiple trim levels and body styles.
Unlike typical cars and SUVs, trucks like the Hilux often remain in service much longer than their usual 6–7-year cycles. However, even by pickup standards, the current Hilux had become dated after multiple facelifts since its launch a decade ago.
Toyota is now giving its durable workhorse a significant overhaul for the 2026 model year. This ninth generation brings major updates, including the first fully electric Hilux model.
The battery electric vehicle (BEV) version is at the forefront of the new lineup, which is why all official images showcase this variant without a combustion engine before its market launch next month.
All images currently depict the double-cab Hilux only. Toyota Europe is dropping all other body styles, responding to strong customer preference for this configuration.
"The single cab will continue in other markets, including Australia. Thailand also gets a Smart Cab (Access Cab) with shorter rear-hinged doors."
These adjustments illustrate Toyota’s focus on tailoring the Hilux to regional consumer demands while expanding its powertrain options.
"The decision... stems from customer demand, as buyers have overwhelmingly preferred this configuration."
The 2026 Toyota Hilux introduces a fully electric model while retaining diesel and gasoline engines, streamlining body styles based on regional customer preferences.
