Oncore, the Sydney restaurant founded by three Michelin-starred chef Clare Smyth, will close in early 2026 after four years in operation at the Crown Sydney resort and casino complex. The venue, Smyth’s only venture outside the United Kingdom, quickly earned critical acclaim and achieved three hats from The Good Food Guide, one of Australia’s most respected culinary ratings.
While neither Smyth nor Crown Resorts, the owner of Crown Sydney, has explained the decision, the closure coincides with Smyth’s plans to broaden her London presence. Her new Chelsea bistro, Cornucopia, is scheduled to open later this month, followed by another restaurant in 2026 at the future Waldorf Astoria London Admiralty Arch hotel. The latter aims to rival the standard of her flagship establishment, Core by Clare Smyth, located in Notting Hill.
“We’re immensely proud of our team’s dedication and the exceptional standard of service they’ve delivered. Being honoured with three Good Food Guide hats consecutively is a testament to them and their remarkable talent. Together with Clare Smyth, we have created a dining experience that sets a benchmark for excellence, and we are delighted to have shared that with so many wonderful guests.” — Oncore, Instagram statement
Oncore’s final service is set for 28 February 2026.
Clare Smyth’s acclaimed Sydney restaurant Oncore will close in early 2026 as the celebrated chef expands her London ventures with new high-profile openings.
