Oncore is the acclaimed British chef Clare Smyth’s only restaurant outside the UK. Located on level 26 of the Crown Sydney, it is famous for its signature seven-course tasting menu and a remarkable potato dish.
Since opening in 2021, Oncore has been a favored destination for special occasions, celebrated for its artistic and memorable dishes, including a silky potato with roe. However, with the lease ending, the restaurant will be closing soon.
“Opening Oncore in Sydney has been an incredible journey,” Smyth said in a statement. “I’m deeply proud of what we’ve achieved and grateful to the team whose talent and dedication brought our vision to life. It’s been a privilege to share our food with Australian diners and be part of Crown Sydney’s world-class offering.”
Oncore was Smyth’s first venue outside the UK, serving as an “encore” to her three-Michelin-starred London restaurant, Core. Smyth explained the choice of location to Broadsheet:
“Whilst geographically Australia is across the world from the UK, the relationship between the two is so close, that it also feels like home to me,” Smyth said. “As I normally travel to Australia once or twice a year for events and to visit friends, it was the ideal location to open my second restaurant and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when it came my way.”
Despite its closure, Oncore remains a testament to Smyth’s culinary artistry and her connection with Australian diners.
Author’s summary: Clare Smyth’s Oncore at Crown Sydney, known for its exquisite tasting menu, will close this summer after an acclaimed four-year run.
