Exhausted Zhao Xintong Defies Jet Lag to Reach Semi-Finals

Zhao Xintong demonstrated his resilience as the world champion by advancing to the Champion of Champions semi-finals in Leicester on Tuesday. The 28-year-old had just arrived at Manchester Airport at 7:55 am after a long journey from China, following the International Championship.

Despite the jet lag, Zhao was undeterred. He began by delivering a commanding whitewash victory over two-time former winner Mark Allen.

The Group 3 final proved more challenging, with Zhao, ranked tenth in the world, narrowly defeating Kyren Wilson in a dramatic deciding frame on the final black.

After establishing a 3-1 lead at the mid-session interval with breaks of 99, 78, and 73, Zhao watched as Wilson, a former Crucible champion, fought back aggressively. Wilson won four consecutive frames, with impressive breaks of 120, 104, 88, and 62, putting himself on the verge of the semi-finals.

However, Zhao responded with resilience, scoring breaks of 136 and 64 to force an 11th frame, which he won in thrilling fashion.

"I just tried my best out there and I’m really happy with how I played today,” Zhao Xintong said. “I missed a few shots and Kyren took full advantage to go 5–3 ahead. I didn’t want to let him win too easily – I wanted to make it a real battle.”

“I just kept fighting, stayed focused, and managed to come back."

This marks Zhao's first semi-final appearance in a ranking event since his victory in Sheffield just days ago.

Summary: Zhao Xintong overcame jet lag and fierce competition to reach the Champion of Champions semi-finals, showcasing his determination and skill under pressure.
