Eastpointe Military Museum Building Turns 70

The Michigan Military Technical and Historical Society Museum, located on Stephens Road, has a rich history dating back to its origins as a neighborhood ice rink.

According to Wendy Richardson, Military Museum CFO,

“It was called Shakespeare’s Field and it did not even have an address,”
and
“It started as an ice rink and stayed as an ice rink for quite awhile until they put in the tennis courts, which I believe was somewhere around 1970.”

The building was first constructed as a teen center after World War II and has since undergone several transformations, including serving as a temporary City Hall, before becoming the home of the Military Museum.

To commemorate the building's 70th anniversary, Richardson will present

“From Teen Center to Military Museum, The Story of our Building”
on November 9th at 2 p.m., showcasing the property's transition over the years.

Author's summary: Museum building celebrates 70 years of history.
