Dr. Paul Shiels, UK

Dr. Shiels works at Department of Surgery, University of Glasgow. Dr Shiels mainly works on biological aging in cancer and chronic disease, cellular therapy, transplantation, and stem cells. Dr Shiels was one of the initial scientists to clone and analyse telomeres and undertook the investigation into the analysis of senescence in cloned animals. Dr Shiels’ research also focuses on how to get degenerative diseases as the people get chronologically older, despite the presence of multi-potent adult stem cells, with a potential repair capacity. Recently, he has been developing a novel regenerative medicine strategy. His group has isolated and investigated a novel adult cell type, PDP cells, to treat human diseases.
