They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.
Angus Provost Craig Fotheringham announced that this Remembrance Sunday, on 9 November, services and parades will take place across Angus. Wreaths will be laid in tribute to those who sacrificed their lives defending our freedoms.
Please, if you have not already planned to do so and you are able, I would encourage you to take a small portion of your time to join others in your community at one of these meaningful events and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
For those unable to attend local events, Provost Fotheringham urged taking a quiet moment—alone or with loved ones—to reflect and remember the fallen. He noted that Tuesday, 11 November, marks Armistice Day, offering another chance to pay respects.
At 11am, whether at home or at work, if you can, pause for two minutes of silence to honour the selflessness and courage of our Armed Services. We must and will remember them.
Fotheringham also expressed gratitude to servicemen and servicewomen who continue to defend the nation both at home and overseas. As they protect our safety, he affirmed, the community will continue to support them.
He acknowledged that recent years have brought growing uncertainty, with the realities of war broadcast across many forms of media—a reminder of the need for continued unity and remembrance.
This piece reflects on Remembrance Sunday in Angus, urging participation in tributes, moments of silence, and gratitude toward all who serve and have served our country.
