The Vitturi Chair, created by ZAZA MAIZON and designed by Saudi designer Abdulaziz Khalid Al Tayyash, bridges Saudi elegance with Italian craftsmanship. It serves as a symbol of cultural fusion, blending Saudi heritage and Italian artisan precision.
The chair draws inspiration from the shemagh (شماغ, pronounced /ʃɪˈmɑːɡ/), the traditional Saudi headcloth. Its flowing folds and rhythmic gestures represent identity and refinement in Arab culture. Rather than copying the fabric directly, the designer translates its kinetic energy into sculptural form.
Specifically, the design reflects the nasfa (نسفة, pronounced /ˈnas.fa/), the swift, effortless flick used to adjust the shemagh. This motion is mirrored in a series of metal curves, creating continuous reflections that interact with light and motion, turning symbolism into sculpture.
The Vitturi Chair evokes vitality and movement, with each curve seamlessly flowing into the next, echoing the rhythmic folds of the shemagh. The design balances a sense of life and composure, boldness and serenity.
“This equilibrium stems from Al Tayyash’s design philosophy, uniting Saudi Arabia’s poetic expressiveness with Italy’s legacy of artisanal precision.”
The chair exemplifies a harmonious dialogue between material and motion, making it both a functional object and an artistic statement.
The Vitturi Chair uniquely combines the kinetic grace of Saudi tradition with refined Italian craftsmanship, creating a dynamic sculptural piece that celebrates cultural connection.
