Edinburgh Trams to commemorate Remembrance Day

Edinburgh Trams to Commemorate Remembrance Day

Edinburgh Trams will honour Remembrance Sunday on November 9 and Armistice Day on November 11, paying tribute to those who lost their lives in World War I, World War II, and more recent conflicts. The initiative highlights gratitude to the armed forces and the enduring impact of their service.

Free Travel for Service Members

On both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, veterans and serving personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force will be offered free tram travel. This can be accessed by showing military identification or wearing a uniform while traveling.

Poppy Scotland Involvement

In the days leading up to the commemorations, representatives from Poppy Scotland will be present at the Haymarket tram stop offering poppies for purchase. Poppies will also decorate tram windows as a visible mark of remembrance.

Two-Minute Silence

As an additional sign of respect, tram services will pause at 11 a.m. for a two-minute silence on both memorial days, where safety allows.

“Each year I am proud to show our support at Edinburgh Trams on both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. As a former veteran myself, and with many of our colleagues also having served, we remain deeply committed to honouring all those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.” — Lea Harrison, Managing Director of Edinburgh Trams
