From St Kilda to Kings Cross, atop a hill overlooking the MCG, and across the vast outback, no songwriter has captured Australian life like Paul Kelly. At 70 years old, the beloved national icon is releasing his 30th studio album.
The album is titled 70, marking this significant age. Kelly shared that he has never felt happier or performed better in his career.
"You've got to live that long. Everything else after that is, you know, gravy," he said.
Even after decades, Kelly continues writing and performing. His lyrics often come from collecting interesting phrases he hears.
"If I read something, I think 'that's a good line,' or a line of poetry or something from a book, or just general conversation that's got a good ring to it, I'll write it down," he explained.
For example, the line 'I've done all the dumb things' was inspired by a phrase he overheard at the Corner Hotel in Richmond.
Paul Kelly’s new album 70 will be available starting tomorrow.
