Erika Kirk, widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, declined a pressured apology from late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following his remarks on her husband's assassination. She emphasized that forgiveness holds no value if it is not heartfelt.
After Jimmy Kimmel faced criticism for comments made after the September 10 shooting, Sinclair Broadcast Group reached out to Erika Kirk’s team to see if she wanted an apology or wished to appear on Kimmel’s show. Erika made it clear that any apology given under pressure would be meaningless.
“Tell them thank you, we received their note. This is not our issue, not our mess,” she said. “If you want to say ‘I’m sorry’ to someone who’s grieving, go right ahead. But if that’s not in your heart, don’t do it. I don’t need it.”
In the aftermath of her husband's death, Erika Kirk chose to respond publicly with dignity rather than engage in confrontation.
“If it’s not from the heart, don’t apologize. That’s not what my family needs right now.”
Kimmel sparked outrage by accusing conservatives of exploiting the assassination for political gain and mocked former President Donald Trump's reaction, saying he grieved “like a four-year-old mourns a goldfish.”
Erika Kirk firmly rejects insincere apologies, valuing genuine compassion over forced gestures in the wake of her husband's assassination.
