The New York Knicks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 137–114 on Wednesday night in a commanding performance. The matchup carried special meaning, given the deep connections between both franchises following the 2024 trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
More than a year after the blockbuster deal, Towns still speaks fondly of his time in Minnesota, where he spent the first nine years of his NBA career after being selected first overall in 2015.
"You feel more like a Knick now after what we went through last year to get to the heights we went to. But it's weird when you see that Timberwolves jersey, especially them fire black ones y’all got," Towns said via The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.
"Not being able to see Towns on the back, it's a weird feeling. I love those guys, I love that locker room to death. I'm willing to do anything for them, even if it wasn't about basketball."
His words reveal an enduring affection for his former teammates and organization, even as he embraces his identity as a Knick.
Looking back, the trade appears beneficial for both sides. During the 2024–25 season, each team reached its respective Conference Finals, reflecting how the exchange strengthened both rosters. As time passes, fans are eager to see who ultimately gains the upper hand and whether either team captures an NBA championship.
Karl-Anthony Towns expresses lasting appreciation for his Timberwolves years while acknowledging his growth and new chapter with the Knicks after a successful trade year.
