Boxing champion Claressa Shields criticized Jake Paul for his reaction to canceling a planned exhibition match involving Gervonta "Tank" Davis, following new domestic violence allegations against Davis.
Paul’s boxing company, Most Valuable Promotions, announced on Monday that the Netflix event scheduled for November 14 “will no longer be moving forward.” His business partner, Nakisa Bidarian, explained they tried to handle the situation responsibly and plan to reschedule Paul’s fight against a new opponent on Netflix in 2025.
Court documents allege that Davis assaulted an ex-girlfriend by choking her at a Miami strip club on October 27, among other incidents. In response, Paul strongly condemned Davis.
“An actual walking human piece of garbage,”
Paul wrote in a statement shared on X.
Shields, however, questioned Paul’s apparent surprise and accused him of selective outrage.
“I have a few things to say about that,” Shields said on X Spaces. “I’m not going to say I 100 percent agree with what Jake said, but we all knew Tank’s background with domestic violence before his fight was made.”
“Before any of his fights get made, we already know he’s had issues with this. This is not his first, second, or even third time with something like this coming out.”
Claressa Shields criticized Jake Paul for his reaction to Gervonta Davis’s alleged misconduct, arguing that his surprise was disingenuous given Davis’s well-known history.
