Olivier Rousteing Is Officially Leaving Balmain

Olivier Rousteing Steps Down as Balmain Creative Director

On November 5, it was announced that Olivier Rousteing is leaving his role as creative director of Balmain after 14 transformative years leading the French luxury brand. This change follows a year marked by numerous shifts among major fashion houses including Chanel, Loewe, Dior, and Bottega Veneta.

Rousteing's Impact and Legacy

In 2011, at just 24 years old, Rousteing made history as the first Black creative director at Balmain and among major European fashion houses in the new millennium. “Like every story, this one also has an ending,” Rousteing wrote on Instagram following the announcement.

Defining the Balmain Era

One of Rousteing’s early notable contributions was coining the term “The Balmain Army,” a phrase symbolizing the military-inspired style of the brand and its community.
