The fashion house Balmain has officially confirmed the departure of Olivier Rousteing, who has served as its artistic director since 2011. At 40, the French designer expressed his gratitude to the brand and its creative team in a statement marking the end of his tenure.
"I am deeply proud of everything I have accomplished and deeply grateful to my exceptional team at Balmain, my chosen family in a place that has been my home for 14 years."
Balmain CEO Matteo Sgarbossa paid tribute to Rousteing’s influence on the brand and the fashion industry.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Olivier for his extraordinary contribution to Balmain. Olivier's visionary leadership has not only redefined the boundaries of fashion but has also inspired a generation."
Earlier this October, Rousteing showcased his final collection for Balmain — the Spring-Summer 2026 line. Although he has not yet commented on his next professional step, his career has already left a lasting imprint on modern fashion.
Born in Bordeaux in 1985, Rousteing started at the Italian label Roberto Cavalli in the 2000s. Joining Balmain in 2009, he quickly rose through the ranks and, two years later, became artistic director at just 25, following Christophe Decarnin. His debut show in October 2011 for the Spring/Summer 2012 collection defined his signature aesthetic of tailored silhouettes, glamour, and bold modernity.
Olivier Rousteing ends a transformative 14-year journey at Balmain, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and elegance that reshaped the house’s modern image.
