This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Manx Amateur Drama Federation (MADF). In 2026, MADF will pause its traditional Easter Festival of Plays but will continue to host a Festival of One Act Plays in March at the Erin Arts Centre.
The Festival of One Act Plays will take place from March 12 to 14. Drama societies from the UK and the Isle of Man are invited to submit short plays. These plays will be performed and judged by Sue Doherty, a veteran adjudicator from the Guild of Drama Adjudicators.
"Sue brings more than 40 years of experience in arts education and theatre to this year’s festival."
As Head of Performing Arts at St Julie’s High School in Liverpool, Sue promoted arts access for young people. Many of her students went on to train at RADA, Guildhall, and LIPA, achieving notable success, including BAFTA winner Jodie Comer.
Sue has experience working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, leading City of Culture projects, and developing impactful verbatim theatre that addresses social issues.
MADF plans to resume the full Easter Festival of Plays in 2027 after this year’s one-act event.
