Mary Sheffield won the 2025 Detroit mayoral election, defeating Solomon Kinloch Jr.
Sheffield, the Detroit City Council President, has been serving the city since 2013. In 2022, she made history as the youngest person elected council president.
The Associated Press projected Sheffield's victory shortly after 9 p.m., about an hour after polls closed.
