People across Leicester will honor the city’s fallen service men and women this weekend.
The annual Service of Remembrance is scheduled for Sunday, 9 November, starting at 10:45 a.m. at the Arch of Remembrance in Victoria Park.
This year holds special meaning as it marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War and the 100th anniversary of Leicester’s Arch of Remembrance, unveiled in 1925 to honor those who died in the First World War.
The Portland stone arch has undergone careful restoration ahead of Remembrance Day. Specialists used high-temperature steam to clean the stone, and the etched lettering was re-gilded using materials that respect the arch’s Listed Building status.
