Marvel Rivals’ Danny Koo Reveals Details on New Content and Developments
Marvel Games' Executive Producer Danny Koo shared insights about the recently launched Zombie Mode, the studio's fast-paced one-hero-per-month release strategy, and upcoming improvements in an exclusive interview at gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show.
Introducing Marvel Zombie Mode
Close to 10 months after Marvel Rivals’ launch, Koo discussed the team’s ambitious direction, highlighting their first Player versus Environment (PvE) content. The limited-time Zombie Mode features five playable characters fighting against waves of undead enemies in New York, culminating in a battle with the ultimate boss, the Queen of the Dead.
“It’s the first PvE mode for Marvel Rivals. It only has five characters right now. It’s just like a testbed to see what players like, how the system works, and hopefully in the future we’ll deploy more PvE mode based on data collected from this round of PvE event.”
Collaboration with Marvel Animation
The event includes assets adapted directly from Marvel Animation, featuring characters like zombie Namor and the Queen of the Dead with costumes closely matching their animated counterparts.
“We have a zombie Namor and a zombie Queen of the Dead from the show. The costumes are very close to the animation.”
Content Release Strategy and Future Plans
Koo also addressed the studio’s strategy of releasing nearly one new hero per month, emphasizing the challenges and lessons learned from managing such a rapid content pipeline. Alongside this, quality-of-life updates are in the pipeline to enhance the overall player experience.
