The first five minutes of Stranger Things> Season 5 offer a chilling 1983 flashback where Will Byers confronts Vecna in the Upside Down. Netflix has released this gripping opening to build anticipation for the final season.
The initial sequence, from the episode titled "The Crawl", takes place deep in the Upside Down forest shortly after Will’s disappearance in 1983. A young, de-aged Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp, is seen frightened and softly singing The Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” inside the Upside Down’s version of Castle Byers.
Suddenly, guttural sounds signal danger before a Demogorgon bursts into the fort. Will shoots a rifle and briefly escapes by climbing a tree, but the creature drags him down and pulls him out of sight. The scene then fades to black.
The story then shifts to Hawkins Library in the Upside Down. Here, the Demogorgon presents Will to Vecna, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower. Emerging from the shadows, Vecna declares:
“At long last, we can begin.”
Vines lift Will against the wall as a tentacle reaches toward his mouth, releasing an unknown substance.
This haunting opening sets an intense tone for the series’ conclusion, deepening the mystery around Will’s fate and Vecna's dark plans.
Author’s note: The preview confirms a suspenseful and dark start to the final season, reigniting fans’ excitement with a blend of nostalgia and horror.
