The Denver Broncos managed a tough 10-7 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night, in a game that lacked excitement and urgency from both teams. Rather than a strategic duel or defensive masterclass, the contest felt like a test of basic competence.
The Broncos struggled throughout but left enough openings that the Raiders nearly capitalized. Late in the fourth quarter, Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson missed a crucial 48-yard field goal attempt, ending the possibility of a comeback.
The Broncos' defense pressured Raiders quarterback Geno Smith throughout, accumulating six sacks and several additional pressures. Smith appeared hindered physically and nearly immobile near the end.
"Nik Bonitto led the way with 1.5 sacks but he was in Smith's face all night long. When the Broncos needed big plays by the defense in this game, Bonitto was there to make them."
Despite Smith’s struggles, the Raiders opted not to replace him with backup Kenny Pickett, which limited their offensive options late in the close game.
While the Broncos secured an important win, the gritty and unimpressive display leaves questions about their championship potential.
