Canada’s Olivier Rioux has made history as the tallest person ever to play college basketball in the United States. Standing at 236 centimeters, the 19-year-old made his Florida debut in a 104–64 win over North Florida.
Rioux entered the game with two minutes left to play, receiving a standing ovation from fans as chants of “We Want Ollie” echoed through the O'Connell Center. His appearance cemented his place in basketball history, surpassing Gheorghe Mureșan and Manute Bol, the two tallest players in the NBA, by five centimeters.
Florida coach Todd Golden gave in to fan requests during the final minutes, allowing Rioux his first official minutes on the college hardwood. Despite not touching the ball, his presence drew immense attention and joy from the crowd.
