Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited to Miami to face charges of attempted murder related to a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May, according to authorities.
Miami Police confirmed on Thursday that 37-year-old Brown is being extradited from Dubai to Miami. A public affairs officer for the U.S. Marshals Service reported that Brown arrived from Dubai through Newark, New Jersey, and was booked into the Essex County Jail the same day.
During his time evading authorities, Brown posted videos online from Dubai. Miami Police spokesperson Officer Michael Vega said,
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh.”
Officer Vega emphasized,
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
In June, authorities issued a warrant charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm for a shooting that occurred on May 16 near the venue at Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street.
An off-duty officer, who was working event security, told investigators that after hearing gunfire, he left the venue and later witnessed Brown physically fighting with another individual in the parking lot, according to the warrant.
