Simu Liu will return as Shang-Chi in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, set to be released in 2026. In a recent interview, Liu shared his excitement about reuniting with the Marvel Cinematic Universe cast and gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from the movie, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
“There are so many actors in it, and working alongside them as peers is incredible because I grew up watching many of them,” Liu told ScreenRant. He will star alongside Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Florence Pugh (Yelena), among others.
“It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”
Liu described the film as a tribute to superhero movies and expressed how it resonates with those who grew up as outsiders.
“This film is for all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre.”
