Jasmine Crockett's Chances of Flipping GOP Senate Seat in Texas

Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, said she is seriously considering running for the U.S. Senate. Early polls indicate she would be a strong contender in the Democratic primary.

“I’m seriously weighing a Senate run in the Lone Star State,” said Crockett.

Newsweek contacted Crockett’s campaign and congressional office for comment. The upcoming Senate elections present difficult odds for Democrats, pushing them to target conservative states like Texas in their effort to reclaim a majority.

Republicans currently maintain a 53-47 advantage in the Senate. Democrats see GOP-held seats in Maine—where former Vice President Kamala Harris won by roughly seven points—and North Carolina—where President Donald Trump secured victory by three points—as their best chances for flipping seats.

However, beyond those states, there are no Republican-held seats up for reelection in regions Harris carried or in closely divided Trump states. This dynamic elevates the importance of Texas, where polling suggests the race could be surprisingly competitive.

Crockett’s possible entry into the Senate contest would reshape the Democratic primary field, which already includes several notable state figures. Elected to the House in 2022, Crockett gained national recognition for her outspoken criticism of President Trump and the GOP.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris praised Crockett as “authentic” while discussing the future leadership of the Democratic Party.

Author’s Summary
