Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, 24, a convicted sex offender, was accidentally released from HMP Wandsworth on October 29, 2025. The Metropolitan Police were notified of the error only a week later, on November 4.
Kaddour-Cherif, formerly residing in Tower Hamlets, appeared in court following an incident at Lloyd Park in Walthamstow on March 30, 2024.
According to court documents, he "intentionally exposed his genitals, intending that someone would see them and be caused alarm or distress."
He pleaded guilty on July 12, 2024, and was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court to an 18-month community order and registered as a sex offender for five years.
The Algerian man has a known criminal record, including charges of trespassing with intent to steal.
This incident follows a similar national case where Hadush Kebatu, a convicted asylum seeker, was mistakenly released from HMP Chelmsford on October 24, 2025. Kebatu was wanted for sexual offenses involving a minor, prompting a three-day manhunt.
Kebatu was found guilty in July of "two sexual assaults, harassing a 14-year-old girl and inciting her to engage in sexual activity."
The cases highlight ongoing challenges with prison release procedures.
This case underscores the serious consequences of errors in the prison release system, exposing risks to public safety and trust.
