David Taylor MP holds meeting with Home Secretary about crime in Hemel

David Taylor MP Meets Home Secretary on Crime in Hemel Hempstead

Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor recently met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to address rising crime and antisocial behaviour in the town. This follows several significant police operations across Hertfordshire aimed at improving local safety.

Respect Orders Pilot Campaign

During their discussion, Mr Taylor urged for Hemel Hempstead to be selected as a pilot location for the Government’s new Respect Orders. These orders are designed to provide police with enhanced authority to target persistent offenders and disruptive behaviour.

“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”

Emphasizing Collaboration Among Agencies

Mr Taylor highlighted the importance of strengthened collaboration between local councils, housing providers, and police forces, especially following recent enforcement efforts in Hemel Hempstead.

“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together. That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”

Tribute to Hertfordshire Police

The MP also praised Hertfordshire Police for their professionalism and commitment, noting the tough conditions under which they serve.

“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure.”

Summary: David Taylor advocates for Hemel Hempstead as a pilot area for new police powers and stresses multi-agency cooperation to effectively combat crime and antisocial behaviour in the community.
