A former nursing assistant, Diamond Johnson, has been indicted for negligent homicide after a patient fell out of a hydraulic lift and died.
According to the Louisiana attorney general, the incident occurred in June 2024 at Jefferson Manor, a nursing home in Baton Rouge, where Johnson was working.
The patient was being moved from a chair to a bed using a hydraulic lift when she slipped out and landed on the feet of the lift, becoming unresponsive about 40 minutes later and unable to be resuscitated.
An autopsy revealed that the patient died from complications due to blunt force injuries caused by the fall, as stated by the attorney general's office.
The indictment was made by a grand jury following an investigation by the Louisiana Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
No comment from the defendant or the nursing home was available.
