Visible advancements on the North Quays development include key structures such as the Sustainable Transport Bridge, the new train station, and the South Quays Plaza near the Clock Tower.
The front elevation of the new train station is now clear after scaffolding removal. The northern plaza, designed for bus and car drop-offs and access to the southeast greenway, is advancing with curbs and paving being installed. Structural work including roofing, paving, rendering, and internal fitting will be completed in the next few months.
Significant mechanical and electrical installations remain before full completion.
Waterford Council Senior Engineer Sean Dobbs stated, “The station can only open once it passes through all the independent safety and compliance checks, and those will continue all through 2026 and into 2027."
The station is projected to open in 2027.
The Sustainable Transport Bridge is now fully installed, with the opening spans functioning properly. BAM continues to operate the spans regularly as part of ongoing work.
Final tasks in the coming months include adding surfacing, glass panels, railings, lighting, seating, and architectural features.
The North Quays project is visibly progressing, with the train station structure nearing completion and the Sustainable Transport Bridge fully installed, aiming for a 2027 station opening after thorough safety checks.
