When I first reviewed the PlayStation Portal two years ago, I praised its potential, noting:
"If it had access to cloud gaming too, it'd be better still."It has taken some time, but this feature is now fully available, fundamentally transforming the handheld.
Sony initially introduced cloud gaming for the Portal a year ago in beta, limited to a few titles. The latest and largest update allows playing hundreds of games without connecting the Portal to a PS5 or PS5 Pro. From my experience, the gameplay is mostly lag-free.
The cloud gaming service now streams a vast portion of users' purchased games. Sony claims the update supports over a thousand titles, accessible in a new "Your Library" section. Selecting a game will load it for play.
As a games and tech writer, I have an extensive PS5 and classic game collection. After updating the Portal, I found over 100 titles available instantly, including many older games I'd almost forgotten.
“More than a thousand titles are now supported, so you should see an almost complete library of available games in a new 'Your Library' section.”
The new update breathes fresh life into the PS Portal, making cloud gaming a seamless and wide-ranging feature.
