Fans of Stranger Things got an early glimpse of the fifth and final season with Netflix’s surprise release of the first five minutes. The opening scene intriguingly takes place during the timeline of season 1, surprising viewers with its setting and timing.
Set on November 12, 1983, just six days after Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) initially disappeared, the scene shows a younger Will trapped in the Upside Down’s version of Castle Byers. De-aged Schnapp portrays a 12-year-old Will, who is visibly frightened and disoriented.
Trying to soothe himself, Will sings "Should I Stay or Should I Go" by The Clash, a song his older brother Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) introduced to him back in the series pilot.
Suddenly, a demogorgon bursts into Castle Byers. Will manages to shoot the creature with a hunting rifle and attempts to escape by climbing a tree. However, the demogorgon pursues him, causing Will to fall unconscious.
The creature drags Will to the Upside Down’s version of Hawkins Library, bringing him face to face with the villain Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). Vecna ominously tells Will:
“You and I, we are going to do such beautiful things together, William.”
This teaser sets an intense tone, reconnecting with the show's early days while foreshadowing dark new developments.
Author's summary: Netflix unexpectedly dropped the first five minutes of Stranger Things Season 5, revealing a flashback to 1983 that deepens the mystery and introduces a chilling encounter with Vecna.
