Steve Witkoff, the U.S. envoy, stated at the America Business Forum conference in Miami that the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas is prepared to surrender its weapons to an international security force operating in the Gaza Strip.
Witkoff explained that Washington is applying pressure on Israel to permit militants trapped in Rafah, southern Gaza, to evacuate the area.
"Hamas has always made it clear that it is ready to hand over its weapons," Witkoff said, recalling discussions with Jared Kushner, advisor to President Donald Trump.
The envoy expressed optimism that Hamas will honor its commitment, noting, "If it does, it will realize that the development plan we have for Gaza is truly extraordinary, much better than what was proposed in the past."
Witkoff highlighted that the initiative includes "a vast job creation program" aiming to improve conditions in Gaza.
