Former NFL player Antonio Brown, 37, has been returned to the United States from Dubai to face trial connected to a shooting incident that took place in Miami about six months ago.
Law enforcement confirmed that Brown was taken into custody at Newark Airport in Essex County, New Jersey. He is expected to be transferred to South Florida, though no timeline has been announced by authorities.
When the arrest warrant was issued in June, police stated that Brown was believed to be outside the country but gave no details about his location. He later hired an attorney who secured a $10,000 bond with house arrest terms. However, Brown did not return to South Florida as required.
Investigators reported that Brown shared videos and photos from Dubai, where he appeared to joke about the charges he was facing in Miami.
The shooting occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on May 17 near 221 NE 67th Street, Miami. Police responded after receiving an alert from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system. Upon arrival, they found no injuries and made no arrests after questioning several people at the scene.
“Police confirmed Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai and into custody at Newark Airport in Essex County, New Jersey.”
U.S. Marshals escorted Brown back from Dubai to face the unresolved criminal charges in Florida. Authorities have not disclosed when his initial court appearance will take place.
