Residents of Metro Vancouver should enjoy clear skies while they last, as powerful storms are expected to hit the region soon. A couple of rare sunny days are predicted before a stormy weather pattern returns.
Environment Canada meteorologist Brian Proctor reported to V.I.A. 7 that the weekend will start with clear skies in the Lower Mainland, following two frontal systems that brought heavy rain and wind.
"The rain during rush hour was more intense than we expected, although rainfall totals were aligned with the forecast," said Proctor.
Rainfall warnings were issued for typical high-risk areas such as the North Shore and Port Coquitlam, which experienced higher levels of precipitation.
The brief sunny period will end as the Pacific jet stream moves onshore, bringing a sequence of storms to British Columbia.
Sunday’s forecast resembles Wednesday’s storm, with moderate rainfall expected over most of the Lower Mainland.
Proctor cautioned these areas could receive rainfall warnings due to higher precipitation.
Residents should prepare for potentially disruptive weather as the storm pattern develops.
Author's summary: Metro Vancouver will see a brief sunny respite before repeated storms bring heavy rainfall, especially to the North Shore and Port Coquitlam, prompting possible warnings.
