Man Arrested After Armed Police Block Key Liverpool Street
Yesterday evening, Merseyside Police cordoned off part of Upper Parliament Street in Liverpool as armed officers detained a man suspected of firearm possession.
Police Statement
"We were contacted just after 8:45 pm on Wednesday, 5 November, following reports that a man had threatened occupants of a property on Upper Parliament Street. Officers responded promptly, arresting a man on suspicion of possessing a firearm, who was then taken into custody. No weapon has been found so far, and investigations are ongoing. The road was temporarily closed but has since reopened."
Eyewitness Accounts
- A local resident told the Liverpool Echo: "There was a gang of kids, and a man came out of a house threatening them with something that looked like a gun. I think he thought they were playing with fireworks."
- Another nearby resident described hearing a commotion before the police arrived. She said, "I was in my flat when all these sirens went off. Looking outside, I saw about 10 police cars. They blocked the road for about 10 minutes before things quieted down. I stepped out to see what had happened."
Current Status
Upper Parliament Street has reopened. The suspect remains in custody, and police continue their inquiries.
