Emergency Road Closure on A592 at Kirkstone Pass

The A592 has been closed at High Kingate, roughly midway between Troutbeck and the Kirkstone Inn, due to a major landslip.

This emergency closure was implemented on Wednesday, 5 November, after heavy rain caused part of the carriageway to become unstable.

To ensure public safety, the road remains closed while technical and safety evaluations are carried out.

A signed diversion route is available via the A6.

A spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Council stated: “Safety of road users is our main priority and this emergency closure is necessary to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done.”

Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

Summary: The A592 at Kirkstone Pass is closed due to a landslip caused by heavy rain, with safety assessments ongoing and a diversion in place.
