Prague has launched its first new tram model in two decades with the introduction of seven Škoda ForCity Plus 52T vehicles now operating on line 12 from Lehovec to Sídliště Barrandov. The trams, produced by the Czech Škoda Group, entered regular service this week and mark a major modernization step for the city’s public transit system.
The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) plans to deploy 20 more trams by year’s end, with a long-term goal of adding up to 200 vehicles to replace older models. Each tram costs approximately CZK 82.5 million before VAT.
The ForCity Plus 52T features a fully low-floor design, ensuring easy access for passengers with limited mobility. Enhanced amenities include more spacious interiors, air conditioning, and onboard WiFi to improve passenger comfort.
Škoda Group’s September press release highlighted that the trams are equipped with anti-collision technology capable of detecting obstacles, warning drivers, and automatically applying emergency brakes if necessary.
Most of the suppliers involved in developing the new trams are Czech companies, strengthening the domestic manufacturing sector while enhancing the reliability and quality of Prague’s public transport.
