Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited The Citadel to support law enforcement, emphasize the importance of character in leadership, and critique a culture overly focused on offense. She delivered the keynote speech at The Citadel Republican Society's Patriot Dinner on November 6.
Noem addressed nearly 100 attendees inside Bastin Hall, urging them to show appreciation for law enforcement officers. She said,
“Go out and encourage a law enforcement officer every chance you get. That would absolutely mean the world to them.”
She also emphasized personal responsibility in politics, stating,
“Being a Republican is being someone who sets an example.”
During the event, Noem was presented with the Nathan Hale Patriot Award, symbolized by a musket from the Revolutionary era, honoring her commitment to patriotism.
This appearance continued a series of visits by former Trump administration officials to South Carolina in 2025, joining figures like Vice President JD Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin.
She warned against a societal trend she described as “addicted to being offended,” encouraging a focus on resilience and strong character in both leadership and daily life.
Kristi Noem's visit to The Citadel highlighted support for law enforcement and stressed that true leadership demands character and personal accountability.
