The Pro One Stop’s Giant Pumpkin Does It Again

Along with the usual Halloween traditions such as trick-or-treating, haunted houses, ghosts, goblins, and jack-o’-lanterns, the village of Stirling has added a special event over the past few years. This beloved tradition is the “Guess The Weight of The Giant Pumpkin” contest, a fundraiser held annually at the Pro One Stop convenience store in the weeks before Halloween.

Mike Kerby of Kerby Hollow Farms first suggested the idea to Min and Julie Yoo, who own and operate the popular store. Kerby explained,

“Since we always seem to grow a few of these enormous pumpkins each year, I suggested we organize a 50/50 contest with half of the proceeds going to support the Stirling Food Bank, and we would donate the giant pumpkin to be the centerpiece of a guessing game.”

Thus, the “Guess The Weight of The Giant Pumpkin” contest was born. For several weeks leading to Halloween, a huge pumpkin is displayed at the entrance of Pro One Stop, inviting customers to guess its weight.

Julie Yoo explained the contest rules:

“Each guess costs a Toonie or you can have three guesses for five dollars. It’s a whole lot of fun but the real winner each year is the Food Bank.”

The contest typically runs for about three weeks before Halloween, attracting many participants and raising funds for a good cause.

Summary: The Pro One Stop's annual giant pumpkin guessing contest in Stirling combines community fun and charitable support to benefit the local Food Bank.
