Reghan Grimes began the season needing only five points to join Tennessee Tech’s 1,000-point club. She far surpassed that mark, scoring 24 points to lead all scorers and guide the Golden Eagles to a 92–67 win over the University of the Cumberlands at the Eblen Center.
Grimes went 7-of-13 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line, helping Tennessee Tech improve to 1–0 for the season. Chloe Larry added 17 points, while Tulsa transfer Cam Mathews delivered a career-high 13 points, with both contributing three-pointers apiece. Reagan Hurst returned from injury to score 10 points in her first regular-season appearance since missing last season.
“That gave the visiting Patriots 50 trips to the free-throw line, where they hit 32 for a 64-percent clip.”
Despite an impressive shooting performance—nearly 50 percent from the field (30-of-61), 45 percent from beyond the arc (10-of-22), and 67 percent at the stripe (22-of-33)—foul trouble caused some difficulty for the Golden Eagles. The team committed 33 fouls, leaving seven players close to disqualification. Joy Kendrick led Cumberlands (3–0) with 21 points, including a strong 12-of-15 showing from the free-throw line despite going just 4-of-15 from the field.
