During the live show Wicked: One Wonderful Night, previews of two new songs for Glinda and Elphaba were unveiled. These additions are part of Wicked: For Good’s effort to expand the second act of the musical and adapt it into a feature film, featuring new music by composer Stephen Schwartz.
Both songs—“The Girl in a Bubble,” performed by Ariana Grande as Glinda, and “No Place Like Home,” sung by Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba—had been briefly heard in trailers. The live broadcast offered a fuller glimpse and some context for their place in the story.
“The Girl in a Bubble” occurs during a night at Glinda’s lavish Emerald City headquarters, where she mourns having obtained everything she wanted as a child, now playing “Glinda the Good” under Madame Morrible and the Wizard’s influence after the first film.
In “No Place Like Home,” Elphaba reflects sorrowfully on her love for Oz, a land that now despises her as the “Wicked Witch of the West.”
These new songs deepen the emotional complexity of both characters as the story transitions from the beloved musical to film.
This expansion with new songs enriches Wicked's narrative, offering fresh emotional insights into Glinda and Elphaba’s journeys.
