Alex Vesia did not attend the Dodgers' World Series victory parade in Los Angeles on Monday, November 3, as he is handling a deeply personal family matter, PEOPLE confirms. The team had announced last month that Vesia would take time away before the World Series.
Will Klein, a Dodgers pitcher, highlighted Vesia's importance to the team:
“He’s such a big part of why we’re here in the first place.”
The Dodgers held their parade after winning the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. However, the 29-year-old pitcher was absent from the event and did not play in any World Series games.
Late last month, the Dodgers shared that Vesia and his wife, Kayla, are managing a deeply personal family matter and would be away from the team temporarily. The organization expressed its support:
“The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”
Earlier in the year, Alex and Kayla announced they were expecting their first child, a baby girl, and had been sharing moments of their growing family on social media. Since October 18, they have not posted updates, their last posts expressing excitement for the World Series.
In an interview after Game 7 on November 1, Will Klein gave a heartfelt mention of Alex and Kayla.
Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia missed the victory parade and World Series games due to a personal family matter while receiving strong support from the team and fans.
