Jeopardy! apologized after a clue sparked backlash among fans. Host Ken Jennings shared a TikTok video explaining his confusion about the clue and addressing the controversy.
On Friday, October 24, the game show featured the category “Daddy is there really a…” with the clue:
No: A.I. Generated The TikTok Image of this pig/human eventually killed by Tim Cheese.
The correct response was “Who is John Pork?” but no contestants buzzed in. After reading the clue, Jennings said, I didn’t understand any of that,
prompting laughter.
John Pork is a viral internet figure depicted as a pig-like human hybrid. His image combines a man’s body with a pig’s head, created digitally. TikTok users humorously claimed he had “died,” which led to the “RIP John Pork” trend online.
Despite rumors in 2023 that he had been shot and killed, John Pork continues to post videos on TikTok.
Many fans pointed out that John Pork existed before AI, making the clue’s description inaccurate. In response, Jeopardy! released an apology video.
“When we played a clue recently on Jeopardy! about John Pork, I remarked that ‘I didn’t understand a word of it.’ Well, I’ve had the chance to learn quite a bit since that clue aired about the late Mr. Pork, including the fact that some viewers took exception with our description of him as AI-generated. Now, even though AI is used heavily in many of his TikToks, it’s possible that wasn’t the best wording to refer to his original appearances.”
The show acknowledged the mischaracterization of John Pork as AI-generated and clarified that his original presence predates the heavy use of AI in his content.
Author’s summary: Jeopardy! and Ken Jennings apologized for an unclear clue about John Pork, addressing fan concerns about the inaccurate AI-generated description.
