Former NBA player Delonte West was arrested on November 3 after being found unconscious at the intersection of Fair Haven Avenue and Richmond Highway in Virginia, according to Fairfax County Police Department.
Police reported that West was extremely intoxicated, and he was taken into custody for his own safety. Officers offered to transport him to the hospital, but he declined medical assistance. When authorities arrived, West was breathing despite being unconscious.
In June of last year, West was arrested again after fleeing police who were attempting to serve a warrant. He was suspected of violating release conditions and resisting arrest. During that incident, he was found unresponsive and received Narcan treatment for a suspected opioid overdose. Subsequently, he was charged with resisting arrest.
Selected 24th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2004 NBA Draft, West played eight NBA seasons across four teams. Throughout his post-career life, he has faced public struggles with mental health, including bipolar disorder, and substance abuse, which have contributed to multiple run-ins with the law.
"West was so intoxicated that he was arrested for his own safety," Fairfax County Police said.
