Environment Canada has issued the first snow squall watch of the season, warning that travel conditions may become dangerous due to sudden drops in visibility to near zero. The watch applies to Sarnia-Lambton, Perth County, Huron County, Chatham-Kent, Southern Bruce County, and Elgin County.
These areas could see 15-30 centimetres of lake effect snow by Tuesday. Environment Canada stated:
“Lake effect snow off Lake Huron is expected to begin impacting Lambton County tonight (Sunday) and possibly locations near the eastern shore of Lake Huron on Monday morning.”
Snow squalls may also extend toward Lake Erie. Northerly winds will shift to northwesterly late Monday into early Tuesday, increasing lake effect snow east and southeast of Lake Huron.
Drivers are urged to stay alert and prepared for rapidly changing weather and reduced visibility that could make traveling hazardous.
Summary: Environment Canada warns of dangerous snow squalls causing low visibility and hazardous driving conditions in several Ontario counties due to significant lake effect snowfall this week.
