Tornado Devastates Rio Bonito do Iguacu, Brazil

A tornado struck the town of Rio Bonito do Iguacu in southern Brazil, killing at least six people and injuring approximately 750. The disaster occurred on Friday evening, severely damaging much of the town.

Storm Impact

The tornado lasted only minutes but brought extreme winds reaching up to 250 km/h (155 mph), overturning cars and damaging buildings throughout the town of 14,000 residents in Parana state.

Aerial images showed widespread destruction, with debris scattered and many structures flattened.

Eyewitness Accounts

“I arrived home and found myself without a roof over my head,” said 51-year-old Nereu Sabadini, who was away when the tornado struck. “I’m homeless and rebuilding will take some time.”
“It destroyed the town, houses, schools. What will become of us?” lamented Roselei Dalcandon, standing beside the ruins of her shop.
