The Los Angeles Chargers secured a 25-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers at SoFi Stadium, led by a dominant defensive performance and Keenan Allen’s record-breaking reception.
The Chargers’ defense delivered three sacks against Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, including one for a safety that contributed to the win.
With just over two minutes remaining, Keenan Allen set a new Chargers franchise record with his 956th career catch, surpassing the previous mark held by Hall of Fame tight end Antonio Gates.
“I was on the sideline and [Harbaugh] said, ‘We’re trying to get it to you,’” Allen recalled. “I said, ‘Hey, just run the speed sweep.’ It’s the easiest catch I get. They actually called me a genius. Like, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’”
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh coordinated the play with offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who approved it from the coaches’ booth. Quarterback Justin Herbert then completed a 7-yard pass to Allen on the right side, securing the record in front of a crowd of 72,174 fans.
“I thought it was a really good call. He wanted to do it in front of the home crowd and it was a great idea. We went with it and it was a great run, too, That was just tremendous,” Harbaugh said.
Allen finished the game with two receptions for 19 yards, helping the Chargers maintain control and close out the win.
