BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox has embarked on a demanding 135-mile challenge across the North East of England to support the annual Children in Need fundraiser. Her “Great Northern Marathon Challenge” involves completing five marathons in five days while journeying through four counties.
The trek begins in Kielder Forest on November 10 and concludes in Pudsey, Leeds, on November 14. Cox will cross through Durham, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and West Yorkshire, traveling on foot through moorlands and hills while carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack — the mascot of the charity.
“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure. We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got.”
“I know the brilliant Radio 2 listeners will be with me every step of the way, and their encouragement and support will shove me up every incline and pull me through my toughest moments.”
Children in Need, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, focuses on helping vulnerable children across the UK. Cox said she couldn’t imagine a better way to mark the milestone than by raising funds for those who need it most.
