Toyota’s best-selling ute has been leaked online just hours before its official unveiling, showcasing a drastically refreshed design for the new-generation model.
Images posted on Instagram by bfmsoficial originated from a video initially published by Auto Societies before the embargo was enforced and the content was removed. These leaks preview the official update expected later today.
The platform and cabin, from the A- to C-pillars, remain the same as the current model. However, the new HiLux features a completely redesigned front with slim headlights, a squared-off grille, and sharp edges. The rear end appears tougher, with a tailgate stamped with ‘TOYOTA’.
Several versions of the new HiLux, sold in Thailand as the HiLux Travo, have been spotted:
Except for the electric HiLux, all other variants are powered by a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, likely the same “1GD-FTV” engine commonly found in the Australian HiLux lineup. Australian government approval documents have also previously confirmed the 2.8-litre engine.
As noted by the leaked post from BF///MS ® Oficial: "Toyota’s best-selling ute has been leaked online just hours before covers are officially due to come off, with the new-generation model appearing to get a drastic new look."
Author’s summary: The new Toyota HiLux arrives with a bold exterior redesign while retaining much of its proven structure and engine lineup, including an anticipated electric variant.
