Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox is setting off on a demanding 135-mile journey to raise money for Children in Need. The Bolton-born presenter begins her five-day effort in Kielder Forest near the Scottish border and plans to arrive in Pudsey, Leeds, by Friday.
The challenge, titled "Sara’s Great Northern Marathon Challenge," will see her running, jogging, and walking through Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. The goal is to cover 135 miles entirely on foot before the live BBC One broadcast of Children in Need on Friday night.
The route mirrors the spirit of her Radio 2 colleague Paddy McGuinness, who last year raised £10 million after completing a tough cycling challenge. However, Sara’s journey will be completed entirely on foot as she carries the iconic Pudsey Bear mascot throughout the route, aiming to deliver “Pudsey to Pudsey.”
“We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!”
“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure.”
Fans and listeners can follow Sara’s progress across the route and donate to support her fundraising efforts in aid of Children in Need.
